I know what you’re thinking…cream cheese and crab? For the Italians, pairing cheese and seafood is a sin worthy of one of Dante’s circles of Hell. However, this appetizer from the Hotel Hana-Maui is a heavenly little starter to accompany drinks. Crispy on the outside, buttery, rich and soft on the inside. Dip them into the hot simple Chinese Mustard to cut the fat. What’s amazing about these is that you will horrify your guests when you tell them what’s inside and then stand back and watch as they devour every last one!
Won Ton wrappers
1 cup Cream Cheese
1 cup Cooked Crabmeat
2 tbls Bread Crumbs
Combine 1 cup of cream cheese with 1 cup of crab meat. Add in 2 tbls of bread crumbs and a few drops of sesame oil. Add salt to taste.
Fill the Won Ton squares with about a teaspoon each of the filling. I found that moistening 1 perpendicular angle of the Won Ton and then folding it into a triangle was an economical way to seal them but you can really experiment in any shape that pleases you.
Deep fry in the peanut oil until brown and serve with Chinese Mustard (1/4 cup of dry Mustard mixed with 3 tbls of water).
