Fogg Cutter (Bali Hai at the Beach Version)

Of the 4 ‘Fog Cutter’ cocktails featured in Beachbum Berry’s Grog Log, this one from New Orleans bar Bali Hai at the Beach, circa 1970s, is my favorite. No disrespect to the original recipe from Trader Vic which is a Tiki classic, this re-vamped version which replaces orgeat for straight up almond extract gives the drink such an evocative bouquet that it truly won me over.

Bali Hai at the Beach – Vintage Postcard

Ingredients

2 oz orange juice
1 1/2 oz lime juice
1 1/2 oz simple syrup
1 oz white rum (Puerto Rican)
1 oz dark rum (Jamaican)
1 oz brandy
1 oz gin
1/2 tsp almond extract
8 oz ice

Directions

  1. Put into an electric blender on high speed for 5 seconds.
