Beachcomber’s Punch

One of the true pioneer cocktails, this recipe for “Beachcomber’s Punch” dates all the way to the creation of Don the Beachcomber’s in 1930s Hollywood. Considering that, this punch is packed with a surprising amount to finesse and complexity. Featuring Don’s signature secret formula of Pernod and Angostura and enhanced with apricot brandy, it is no wonder that the recipe eluded so many who wanted to emulate his success. I’m not generally a fan of Pernod in my Tiki cocktails but I would say this one manages it just right. There is something elusive about a well made Tiki cocktail and “Beachcomber’s Punch” must have set that bar pretty high. The hefty dose of ice makes this quite a thick slush and I found that to be a very enjoyable consistency for the drink. Good job, Donn.

1/2 oz lime juice
1/2 oz grapefruit juice
1/2 oz apricot brandy
1/2 simple syrup
1 1/2 oz Demerara rum
Dash of Angostura bitters
1/8 tsp Pernod
6 oz ice


  1. Blend everything in a blender at high speed. Garnish with mint.
